Project Managers

Responsibilities

As Project Manager you must have the ability to manage multiple project teams and work closely with client companies to define and document requirements, create and maintain project plans, manage the creation of specifications, development of bespoke software, deployment of the completed solution, and acceptance by the client.

As a Project Manager your specific responsibilities will include:

  • On customer projects, work with User Interface Specialists, Speech Scientists, and application developers to define and create mobile speech applications.
  • Lead and motivate multiple small engineering teams.
  • Provide weekly status reports to clients and management on individual projects.
  • Act as our primary technical interface to specific customers.
  • Manage project profitability, revenue projections and staffing requirements in a matrix environment.
  • Presentation of Nuance products, methodologies and schedules to customers or potential customers
  • Provide feedback that is derived delivering bespoke solutions to internal product development teams that manage product evolution

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years of industry experience that includes a broad understanding of software delivery, professional services consulting and/or program management.
  • Technical understanding of mobile and embedded architectures
  • Ability to work with rapidly-changing cutting-edge technologies and new products
  • Direct experience developing in C/C++ or Java is a strong plus
  • Direct experience in system architecture and design a strong plus
  • Relevant experience working with internal or external client organisations.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • BSEE or BSCS or equivalent experience.
  • Be able to work with a minimum amount of direct supervision.
  • Flexible working hours to manage across multiple time zones.
  • Identify functionality versus schedule tradeoffs under pressure.
  • Work well with other technical experts in user interfaces, software development, and speech recognition areas.

Operations Engineers

Responsibilities

  • Help design data centre architecture for fault tolerance, high reliability and scale at reasonable cost
  • Maintain, enhance, and expand the systems that support the application/service
  • Support the data centre infrastructure and the systems in the data centre
  • Leverage broad array of IT skills to solve problems and keep the service running
  • Installation, configuration, and support of typical data centre systems
  • Operational monitoring and preventative maintenance of all data centre systems and components
  • 24x7 On-call support on a rotational basis
  • Participation in scheduled after-hours maintenance windows (as needed)
  • Documentation of support and operational processes
  • Knowledge sharing and cross training of team members
  • Continuous proactive effort to enhance and improve current processes

Qualifications

  • Strong design skills with various systems that comprise the data centre infrastructure
  • Strong troubleshooting, communications, and customer support skills
  • Server Hardware: HP/DELL/IBM, equivalent server hardware acceptable
  • Server Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 2000/2003, RedHat Linux ES/AS
  • Networking Technologies: routers, switches, VPN devices, firewalls, web servers, IP load balancers
  • Networking Equipment: Cisco knowledge preferred, equivalent network products acceptable
  • Microsoft SQL Server: Administrator level experience or greater preferred
  • Other Software: SIP/VOIP Proxy’s, Cisco VOIP Gateways 5300/5400 experience preferred
  • Well organised and able to track progress on initiatives independently
  • BS degree, preferably in technical concentration or the equivalent in experience.
  • 3-5 years of IT-related experience required.
  • Expertise is expected in at least 3 technical areas listed in essentials skills and abilities above
  • Technical certifications are expected in multiple relevant products or concentrations.

Quality Assurance Engineers

Responsibilities

  • Work within the Engineering team and fully own testing of a specific component/service
  • Review functional and implementation specs and participate in feature design
  • Write test plans, schedules and communicate them
  • Prioritise areas of importance while testing
  • Develop test cases, build automation and tools
  • Execute test suites and provide results in a structured manner
  • Review operational specs and maintain test environments
  • Working closely with partners to productively engage integration and end-to-end testing efforts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math or Physics)
  • Experience in C/C++, Java, C#
  • 3+ years Test or Automation, Tool Development Experience
  • Experience working with the full life cycle of projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with Web Services and/or Client/Server applications preferred
  • Ability to succeed in a team environment

Speech Engineers

Responsibilities

  • Work with the product engineering teams to deliver new features into our set of open voice services
  • Play a key role in design, implementation and delivery of a specific component or service
  • Write design and implementation specs in response to functional/feature specs
  • Estimate the effort involved, set a schedule and deliver to it
  • Understand and contribute to the performance, scalability, high-availability and security of the service/components that you own
  • Contribute to review and execution of test strategy, test plan of your components
  • Working effectively with partners on integration and end-to-end testing efforts

Qualifications

  • Degree in computer science, math, physics or engineering or equivalent additional experience
  • 3+ years of industry experience in C/C++, Java, C# (1-2 full life cycles of a project/product)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with Web Services and multi-tier distributed software applications
  • Ability to succeed in a team environment

Acoustic Modeling Researchers

Responsibilities

  • Provide experimental and theoretical analysis of speech recognition problems
  • Formulate new algorithms, create research tools, design and carry out experiments to verify new algorithms
  • Work with other members in the team to improve the performance of product and add new product features to meet business requirements
  • Optimise accuracy of our hosted speech recognition applications
  • Work with other team members to build and deliver acoustic models for products
  • Work with development engineers to insure a high quality implementation of algorithms and models in company products
  • Follow developments in speech recognition to keep our research work state-of-the-art

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Master degree in computer science or electrical engineering
  • Good analytical and diagnostic skills
  • Experience with C/C++, scripting using Perl, Python and csh in UNIX environment
  • Ability to work with a large existing code base
  • Desire and ability to be a team player
  • Strong desire and demonstrated ability to work on and solve engineering problems.
  • Preference will give to candidates who have speech recognition background.

Language Modeling Researchers

Responsibilities

  • The Nuance Language Modeling Team is responsible for pushing the boundaries of the state-of-the-art in consumer and enterprise large vocabulary dictation and transaction systems in terms of accuracy, speed, and ease of use. The qualified candidate would work on core statistical language modeling for a variety of specialised and general domains, formatting, grapheme to phoneme conversion, and various other natural language processing tasks.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or above in Computer Science, Mathematics or related fields or commensurate work experience. Coursework in the fields of Probability, Statistics, Machine Learning, Algorithms.
  • Ability to work in a strong team environment but also progress independently with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for individual and team tasks and goals.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++, fluency in Perl or Python. Comfortable working in a Linux environment.
  • Preference will give to candidates who have speech recognition background.

Language Development Experts

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to train and test models used for speech recognition in many languages and dialects. Working with native-speaking language consultants, selects and prepares test sets for use in evaluating recognition systems, correcting transcriptions and tokenisation. Runs recognition testing, and keeps records on performance and methodology. Updates methodology and results to keep current with improvements in recognition engines. Works with research to tune the system and optimise performance and helps in the analysis of language specific modeling issues.
  • Maintains speech corpora used for training and testing acoustic models. These corpora consist of millions of recorded utterances and corresponding transcriptions in many languages and dialects, with metadata for each utterance.
  • Selects speakers and utterances from speech corpora to create test sets, taking into account speaker gender, age, accent, recording characteristics, utterance type, and test objectives.
  • Runs speech recogniser on test sets, modifying utterance transcripts and tokenisation as needed to ensure accurate evaluation of recognition systems. Records test results and methodology. Updates tests as needed to match changes in recogniser and components. Maintains and enhances tools to run tests. Explores the space of speech-accuracy tradeoffs to and proposes operating points that result in optimal performance. Analyses test results, in particular outliers with poor performance. Automates training cycle.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with text processing in a UNIX-like environment is vital.
  • Experience in using scripting languages such as Perl, Python, make, C shell, and Bash to build automated systems from smaller components is highly desirable.
  • Experience with automatic speech recognition (ASR), while welcome, is not required.
  • Experience with database administration, and proficiency in non-English natural languages is a plus.
  • Ability to work with native language consultants to maintain, characterise, and correct data corpora is very important.
